On Friday, October 2, 2009, more than 100 young leaders pledged to make a difference in the schools and neighborhoods of Washington, DC in the company of family, friends, and supporters on City Year Washington, DC's Opening Day. Immediately following the high-energy public ceremony, corps members put their pledge into action by completing a transformative service project in the city.
