Yesterday, City Year Washington, DC hosted over 600 volunteers, including City Year Co-Founder and CEO Michael Brown and US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and his family, at City Year’s MLK Day of Service. We spent the day in Northeast DC beautifying both Houston Elementary School and Ron Brown Middle School. At the end of the day, volunteers had painted almost 300 murals throughout the schools hallways, built and repaired park benches, reorganized the middle school's library, and made over 100 transitional housing kits and bag lunches for the homeless.
